Walters Munde started his career as an Agriculturalist. He obtained
a BSc in Agriculture General and an M.Sc in Crop Protection in 1993
and 1998 respectively from the University of Sierra Leone.
He later proceeded to Gent University, Belgium after receiving
a Scholarship from the Development Cooperation of the Flemish Interuniversity
Council, Belgium where he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma and M.Sc in
Environmental Sanitation in 2004 and 2005 respectively.
He then moved on to the London Commonwealth College in
the United Kingdom where he obtained a Diploma in Information Technology
in 2007.
Walters presently lives in Canada where his skills have
been evaluated and certified by the Canadian Environmental Approvals Board
(CECAB) awarding him the Certificate in Environmental Practice In Training
(CEPIT) in 2008.
He is currently being evaluated for a National Certification
through the Canadian Center for Environmental Education in partnership
with The Environmental Career Organization (ECO Canada), the Federal Government
Sector Council for the Environmental Industry.
Highlights of his work profile include positions of teacher/lecturer
in Cameroon Protestant College Bali and the University of Sierra Leone,
Research Assistant in the University of Sierra Leone, Farm Manager for
the Korean Presbyterian Church Integrated Project in Sierra Leone, Supervisor
for Del Monte Fresh Produce Cameroon, Industrial Experience at Volvo Cars
Belgium and Partnership Officer for The Environmental Network of North
Somerset (TENONS) in the United Kingdom.
His experiences in the Agricultural Sector were motivating
factors in adopting a career shift to Environment with special interest
in “Pesticide Use and The Environment”
Walters has extensive professional experience in Projects
and Studies undertaken across three continents (i.e. Africa, Europe and
North America).
Notable highlights include:
In-depth studies on Pest Management Practices for the
Sweet Potato Weevil, Cylas puncticollis,
the use of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to Improve
Sweet Potato Production,
the use of a Biomonitoring Tool for Monitoring Pollution
Levels in Surface Waters,
the Environmental and Human Risk of the Inappropriate
Use of Pesticides in Plantations.
Bush Meat Industry and its Effects on Wildlife Conservation,
Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development,
Stockpiles of Persistent Organic Pesticides and their
Effects on the Environment and Marine Resources.
Walters is currently working in a senior position
as Environmental Technician for The First Nations (Alberta) on various

Meeting with Her Majesty The Queen
of England
On July 20th 2007, Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The
Duke of Edinburgh visited Weston Super Mare, South West England.
Walters and Rose Hughes both members of The Environmental Network
of North Somerset (TENONS) with website: www.tenons.org.uk
represented the organization during the Queen’s visit. Walters
and Rose held the positions of Partnership Officer and Secretary respectively.

TENONS mounted display boards with pictures, books,
papers, biodegradable shopping bags, and a host of other items all
depicting a broad spectrum of Environmental concerns. Walters had
the unique opportunity of explaining among other issues, highlights
of TENONS’ activities and objectives to Her Majesty The Queen.
She in return expressed absolute appreciation and recognition of
the activities of this umbrella environmental organization based
in Weston Super Mare.
TENONS was created in 1997 based on The local Agenda
21 of the Earth Summit Conference held in Rio in 1992. The purpose
of the Action Plan is to allow communities, organizations, civil societies,
local governments, etc to work towards a future where our ways of
life no longer lead to a deteriorating world environment described
as “Sustainable Development”.
